today i took myself to the movies to see "wanted." all in all, a good movie (miss jolie was orgasmic, as always, xoxoxoxo). i won't spoil it for you dahlings but i will say that it is really, really violent. a lot of up close camera shots of blood, bloody people, animals being blown up, shooting, bullets going through people's heads. think of the kill scenes from the movie "kill bill" and you get what i'm talking about. i personally like action movies so i was fair game, although a couple of ppl were such pussies about it that they got up and left the theater.

i also thought it was particularly interesting that the guy in front of me had his young son there, about jordan's age, 4 yrs old or so. he was quick to cover his son's eyes when the sex scenes were on but blood, guts, swearing, and killing brought none of the same swift reaction, the little boy sat there staring at the screen all throughout the movie. as a mother of a young child i don't even let jordan watch csi miami. a blood n guts movie? what is wrong with today's parents???? i'm not saying that a movie alone will cause a child to shoot up his high school but i do think that violence is totally inappropriate for young children. does my four year old really understand that a man isn't really dead in real life because he's full of holes on a morgue table? children have no way of appropriately understanding certain things and placing their observations in the proper mental frame.

sometimes i just worry about where society is going. a couple of years ago you never heard cuss words on cable. i or his father don't cuss in front of him, nor does he watch/listen to music or movies with cuss words in me or his father's presence. now you get damn and an occasional ass on ABC, of all channels. and it's not as if the frequent bleeps help, in about 2 years i guess he'll be able to read between the lines of what's being said anyway. and it's funny that there are probably people reading this like who gives a shit people can say and watch what they want if you don't like it then tough but the truth is you can't always say/do what the hell you want when you are responsible for the life of a child. life is far more complex than that.

ok i think i'm through with my rant now. till next time...

(It's been a minute since I posted over here in Vox-ville, but seeing
as how I haven't had the "how much can I talk about the things about my
job that annoy me" discussion with my boss yet, "better safe than
sorry" is the order of the day. )

As many of you know, I made the transition from corporate life to
public librarianship. While the transition has been largely smooth, and
while I still enjoy my job very much, every day I come into contact
with a service ethic that stands in opposition to my own. This is the latest example: while working
at one of the library's information desks, a customer came up and asked
for a sheet of paper. Because I didn't know where we kept spare reams
of paper, I reached inside the printer, pulled out a sheet, and handed
it to him. After the customer walked away, a colleague pulled me aside
and said "We never give up the paper. Never."

Now, I'll grant that we have a recycling bin at the end of the desk for
scrap paper (which I completely forgot about), but I couldn't believe
that this was the one element of my job performance that the staffer
chose to criticize.

When I read through library listservs, or when I encounter images of
librarians in popular culture (Buffy's Giles excepted), I often
encounter the image of the library as a foreboding, unwelcoming
institution that is more concerned with keeping order and adhering to
arbitrary rules than it is to delivering top-notch customer service.
It's no wonder that some people prefer bookstores, and why some others
would rather turn to Google for quick information service. We seem to
be a surly, stuffy bunch.

My idea of customer service and end-to-end user experience was shaped
-- for better or worse -- by four years spent slogging through corporate
trenches. I ultimately learned that I didn't belong in the corporate world, but the one valuable lesson that I did learn was that it is much easier to say yes than not, particularly for requests that can be carried out with a minimum of effort. The patron asked for paper, and I gave it to him, an exchange that took no more than 10 seconds from start to finish. Compare it to the alternate scenario: The patron asks for paper, and I say "No, but if you look at the end of the desk, you'll find a recycling bin with scrap paper in it, and you can have as much of that as you want." At this point I've introduced a level of unnecessary complexity, created a barrier for the patron, albeit a small one, and this barrier has an impact on the patron's ability to complete their task quickly and easily.

I haven't worked in a library long enough to understand the reasons behind this particular rule, but it seems to me that library service would become more efficient -- and friendlier -- places if we just did away with those insignificant service policies and developed a culture of customer service.

so, I'll be updating this for a little bit as I find a new webhost which I need to do by July 1. I think I already know which service I want to go with, but I'm not going to say it's definite so that I can carry on my procrastination and not work on a layout or anything of that nature.

I think God is telling me to take a break.

2 days after writing my last post, I woke up sick thinking it was from me drinking more liquor than I should of when I went out. I prayed to God to let me stop throwing up. I woke up Sunday feeling better. I even decided to test out commitment by buying a cellphone. I'm in a two year relationship... ooooo... and it's a good thing i got insurance in this relationship because within less than a month, my cellphone got ran over by a car. so i'm on phone 2 in 22 days. It's a cool phone though.. I have an LG env 2. I'm really diggin' it. That's weird for me to say since I used to be so anti-cellphone.. but it has proved convenient.

Anyhoo, I woke up the Monday and the throwing up was back. I can't explain the pain I had in my lower right belly.. I knew it wasn't normal... I finally broke down and went to the hospital.. I have diabetes yall. I never knew how much diabetes affects until I had to go through this diabetes info time while in the hospital.. so many freaking signs that I never knew. like my dry skin and feeling like the water was never hot enough and i did notice that where I used to be hot all the time, I was always feeling like it was drafty. I sat in the hospital for 6 days before being released.

Needless to say I've changed my diet and am on medicines which seem to take away my brain power but I guess that's good. I always say I overthink.. I was kind of upset. I grew out of my asthma and am taking on a new disease. It was weird though, when I couldn't keep anything down I was like I wish I was having an asthma attack, at least I would know what to do, or how to lay, or how I could relax myself. I'm telling yall, I am blessed.. more than once in my life I've had someone say they can't believe I'm alive. My doctor at the hospital said that if i didn't come in when I did, it could of attacked my kidneys.. I'm telling you, God must of kicked that pain in for that very reason because hello, this chick does NOT have insurance and if the pain wasn't getting me the way it was, I would NOT of went when I did.

So, yeah, I'm a diabetic. I mostly cut out sugars/low carbs and in 3 weeks I've lost 7 pounds. I keep trying to explain to people that's not the goal.. My diet is for lowering my sugar levels. then why did I mention it? Because it's amazing to me that cutting out mostly sugars I unintentionally lost weight..

well, that's all for now.

and for folks talking about email *cough*FENNIX*cough* I forgot my password so all my contacts and all that are lost with it.. i had some ridiculous clue for the hint thinking I was clever, but i proved too clever for my dang self.. so, i'm glad some of yall are hiding here... i'll definitely get in touch

but now.. i must walk the moo moo!
